Reflective Statement:

Consistent on-going assessment is crucial to students learning and development. There are obviously many forms of assessment at teachers disposal so it is important teachers understand and have knowledge of each one.
A key word used is ‘consistent.’ I always try to regularly mark and update students work and administer an assessment tool when necessary. Be it a reading record or a learning conversation.

Obviously with the focus on the accelerated learning programme for writing and maths this year an extra effort has been taken to assess and close learning gaps. This involves assessing students writing and maths, identifying learning needs and working along-side target groups/and other students in order to accelerate learning.
Through this programme I have noticed teaching and learning techniques that can be incorporated into other areas such as reading and maths.

Small step learning to enhance student’s knowledge and understanding of different concepts as well as on-going evidence collecting is a very effective way of helping students.

It is important to consistently share and feedback to students individually or as a collective their learning progress so they know what they need to improve on and know what they are doing well in. Good goal setting can achieved this way.

I endeavor to  use assessment as a reflective tool e.g. for self-review or evaluation of programmes. Students are beginning to be more involved  when evaluating different learning programmes. I  also engage  openly in team/staff discussions with teachers, whānau and other relevant members of the learning community (Tony- Project Energize, RTLB's) when evaluating the success of learning programmes for all learners and planning for next steps in the teaching and my students learning programme.
